DAVISON AVERY YON
Software Developer and Educator

About Me

Hello! My name is Davison Yon and I am an educator and software engineer in Cleveland, Ohio. I work on backend systems(.NET, SQL, RESTful) and frontend systems (Angular, jQuery, and recently React) using continuous integration and continuous deployment.

Outside of work, I immerse myself in the worlds of gaming and science fiction, particularly within the expansive universe of Star Wars. I recently got into 3D printing and am currently crafting Mandalorian helmets. In my personal life, my partner and I are on a culinary quest to assess the best Bavarian pretzels and beer cheese offerings across Cleveland.

Skills

As an educator and developer, I have found that my skills align with the notion of T-Shaped skills. My specialty is in C# and object-oriented programming. Teaching high school and middle school about computer programming has allowed me to build a strong set of fundamental skills that cross in multiple fields. My analytical mindset has allowed me to grow the school’s orchestra program and build custom software solutions to manage and assess student growth.

And yes, you did read that correctly – I am also a high school orchestra director. Research shows software developers tend to be quite adapt in the musical arts. Similar to written code, music requires interpretation and execution. Musicians are also similar to developers in that we are both problem solvers; we will not stop until we solve the puzzle.

I love teaching – it is what I have been doing for a while. As a developer, one of my goals is to help others learn and improve, while at the same time learning from them. Seeing someone learn a skill then execute it flawlessly in the future is one of the many rewards for me in education.

My Experience

I began programming when I was in high school (2009). Since that time, I have worked on numerous projects in quite a number of languages. A few notable examples can be found under “Projects”.
